What if I told you that your skincare could be as indulgent as your favorite chocolate treat? Let’s make body butter that’s good enough to eat!
I’m all about simple, healthy living, and that extends beyond what’s on my plate. Just like I focus on clean, nourishing foods, my skincare should be just as mindful.
After all, our skin is our largest organ– everything we put on it gets absorbed into our body. That’s why I love making my own skincare products with pure, non-toxic ingredients.
Today, I’m sharing one of my absolute favorites: Whipped Cacao Body Butter!
This homemade body butter is rich, fluffy, and ultra moisturizing, thanks to cacao butter, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil. It’s like a decadent dessert for your skin- without any of the harmful junk found in store bought lotions. Bonus? It smells like chocolate heaven.
This post is all about how to make Whipped Cacao Body Butter.
Why Non-Toxic Skincare Matters
We’re careful about what we eat, but have you ever checked the ingredient list on your skincare products? Many conventional lotions and creams are loaded with synthetic fragrances, parabens, and preservatives that can do more harm than good.
- Everything absorbs – Your skin is like a sponge. Toxins from skincare can enter your bloodstream, affecting your overall health.
- Synthetic fragrances = endocrine disruptors – Many artificial scents contain phthalates, which mess with your hormones. No thanks!
- Fewer irritants = happier skin – Harsh chemicals can cause dryness, irritation, and even long-term skin damage.
Why DIY? Finding Clean Skincare is Hard!
We already talked about how important it is to switch to non-toxic personal care products. But have you noticed how ridiculously hard it is to find clean, truly natural skincare at the grocery store, Walmart, Target- anywhere?!
And if you do happen to find something local, it’s usually crazy expensive. Why is it that the fewer the ingredients, the higher the price? (Hand raised!) This is exactly why we’re taking matters into our own hands.
With just a few simple, pure ingredients and a little bit of time, we’re going to make a luxurious whipped cacao body butter that’s better than anything store bought- for a fraction of the cost. Let’s go!!
DIY Whipped Cacao Body Butter Recipe
The original recipe (as written below) makes about one cup, but I doubled it- because in this case, more is better! Here’s how to make it yourself.
Ingredients:
56g (about 24) Navitas Organics® Cacao Butter Wafers
¼ cup unrefined coconut oil
¼ cup sweet almond oil
Optional: ¼ tsp. of your favorite essential oil (like lavender for relaxation or citrus for an energizing boost)
Instructions:
Melt the cacao butter, coconut oil, and sweet almond oil in a saucepan over low heat until fully combined.
Transfer the mixture to a mixing bowl and place in the refrigerator for about an hour, or until it just begins to harden.
Whip it! Use an electric mixer on high speed to whip the mixture into a light, fluffy texture. (This is what gives it that dreamy, cloud-like feel!)
Optional: Add your favorite essential oils and mix for a few more seconds. I love vanilla and coffee, as they pair perfectly with the natural cacao smell.
Store in a glass jar at room temperature.
This recipe is from Navitas Organics, a brand known for high-quality superfoods and natural ingredients. Check them out if you’re looking for clean, organic cacao butter and more!
How to Use Your Homemade Body Butter
- Apply after a shower to lock in moisture and keep your skin soft all day.
- Use on dry areas like elbows, knees, and heels for extra nourishment.
- Massage into hands and cuticles for a DIY hand treatment.
- Gift it! Homemade skincare makes an amazing self-care gift. Package it in a cute jar and tie with a ribbon.
Treat Your Skin to Something Pure
Taking care of your skin doesn’t have to be complicated. Simple, natural ingredients can be just as effective (if not more!) than the toxic, overpriced products lining store shelves. So go ahead, treat yourself- you deserve it!
